What are the requirements for materials in the processing of titanium alloy precision parts?

Not all materials can be used for precision machining of mechanical components. Some materials are too hard, exceeding the hardness threshold for machining components, which may cause the components to break. Therefore, these materials are not suitable for precision machining of mechanical components, unless they are made of special materials or are laser cut

The materials used for precision machining of mechanical components are divided into two major categories: metallic materials and non-metallic materials. Among metallic materials, stainless steel has the highest hardness, followed by cast iron, then copper, and finally aluminum. The processing of ceramics, plastics, etc. falls under the category of non-metallic material processing.

Precision machining of mechanical components primarily demands a certain level of material hardness. For certain applications, higher hardness is preferable. However, this is limited by the hardness requirements of the machined parts. The material used for machining cannot be too hard; if it is assumed to be harder than the machined part, it cannot be processed. The material should be moderately soft and hard, at least one level lower than the hardness of the machined part. Additionally, the function of the machined component should be considered when selecting the appropriate material for the machined part.

The processing of precision mechanical components still has certain requirements for materials, as not all materials are suitable for processing. For example, materials that are too soft or too hard are not suitable for processing. The former is unnecessary for processing, while the latter cannot be processed. Therefore, it is important to pay attention to the density of the material before processing.

Assuming the density is too high, it is equivalent to having a very high hardness. If the hardness exceeds that of the machine components (such as lathe tools), it cannot be processed. This not only damages the parts but also poses a danger, such as the lathe tool flying off and injuring people. Therefore, generally speaking, for mechanical processing, the material's hardness should be lower than that of the machine tools, so that it can be processed.
